I've been playing for many decades, yet somehow, I've never owned a Marshall amp of any kind, and I'm thinking I'd like to finally get one. I'm looking at the 6100LM as it seems to be well-regarded and is relatively affordable, and wondered if anyone had any opinions or experiences with it. Good amp? Versatile? Anything to be aware of or to be concerned about?
Thanks for your thoughts!

If you're getting your first Marshall, I would suggest going for the Marshall JVM Series JVM205H 50W head or the JVM210H 100W head. The current Marshall heads are well featured, deliver great Marshall tone, and better clean sounds than any of the classic model Marshall amps, which was the one main complaint of those amps. We reviewed the four-channel version, the JVM410, when it first came out, and as Marshall amps go, we really liked it. musicplayers.com/reviews/guitars/2007/0907_Marshall_JVM.phpScott

The 6100LM is a great amp. I've had several, LM and non LM versions, and have kept a 6L6 loaded LM. They are obsolete, so some parts may be problematic to replace if they fail I suppose, but still an excellent amp.

Thanks for the replies! Scott, I should have mentioned that I need to keep the cost under a grand, and even used JVMs go for more than that. If I could afford it, I'd definitely be looking at a JVM!

In that case, I'd also consider the DSL100H, which I see is under $700 on eBay. Two channels, classic Marshall tone.
