Curious what your thoughts are on the subject of guitar finishes? Do you like hot and flashy? Classy with a nice grain showing through? Or do you love the look of a vintage, distressed, beat-up guitar that has been battle tested for decades?

It's probably heresy, but I've never been at all attracted to beat up-looking axes. It's kind of cool to see certain people play one (i.e. old blues players or Keith Richards), but I'd never want one for myself. But if you're going that route, I much prefer the authenticity of actually wearing it out yourself as opposed to buying a pre-aged guitar. A pre-aged axe just seems sort of fake and dishonest somehow, like pretending you've "paid your dues" when you really haven't.

I agree... or at least I thought I did. Personally, I prefer shiny, new, hot looking finishes with some flash. But then half of my guitars have flamed maple tops... I used to think of the distressed guitars as being sort of poser-isa, but someone pointed out to me that enjoying a worn-out look is no different than fashion. And truth be told, I love my faded jeans and some with holes and patches, so for me to hate players using new, old-looking guitars is really quite hypocritical. So, I have let go of the hate :-p lol.
