Fanned frets: fad or here to stay?

We reviewed our first fanned fret guitar earlier in 2016 here, an Ibanez 7-string, multi-scale guitar:

Conceptually, it makes sense. Physically, feels good... but not so easy to play the first position... what are your thoughts on these?
